    I havent cleaned one of my ARs in 6 months, as long as the bcg is well lubricated you shouldn't have any real issues. Some people like to oil or grease the springs and pins of their lowers, but I just keep the charging handle and BCG well greased. And yes keep oil out of the gas port. Also, a lot of AR shooters that shoot in volume actually use lubes like Frog Lube or Spartan oil in their barrels to help with friction reduction so dont be afraid to shoot your AR with a lubed barrel. If youre nervous, you can always start with a low amount and work up for pressure signs.
