    New Rifle

I have been thinking about a tactical semi auto rifle for a while.

The AR is out because they have to be neutered thanks to King Coumo Faccia Brutta III

The Ruger Mini is a thought and so is an M1 Carbine.

I'm thinking a hogue type stock, ACOG equivalent optics with night vision capability and a Harris ByPod.

If any of you guys have a better suggestion, I guess we could throw a SOCOM 16

I want to get AirBrush Art in on this to add a Phoenix coming out of the ashes sitting on a LIGC logo.

I am talking balls to the wall shit hit the fan, shit hit your pants, the end of the world as we know it tac driving zombie killing machine of death and evil.

I am open to any suggestions let's have some fun, talk guns and build a rifle.

Ya gotta pick a cartridge. Then build a rifle around it.

I have had the best results with 55 grain for my 1-9 twist barrel

Take a look at the Ares SCR.

1/9 twist, my AR had a 1/7 , is that going to affect 100 YD shots ?

I'm no expert on that. You can use an AR upper with the Ares SCR lower. They sell the lowers separately if you want.

1/9 is best for 62 grain and lower and 1/7 for heavier bullets.

Since the Ares is accurate but not an MOA shooter, the lighter rounds and 1/9 twist make a lot of sense from a cost/expectation POV..

The Ljungman AG42? Looks nice and all that's needed for NYS is an easy swop where the bayonet lug is. Replacement parts are available too.

The BM59 is intriguing. A Garand chambered for 7.62mm, what's not to like!

Mini 14 has its benefits, but not going to shoot tight groups at distance. For the money you want to spend, you can do a lot better. Coming from a huge Ruger fan.

VZ. 58 Liberty 7.62 x 39? .. I participated in a couple of carbine classes last year. One of the other shooters was running this rifle. Very interesting to see it run dynamically using the stripper clips top loaded. At first look I thought.. ok.. its a glorified SKS in tactical furniture, but it does shoot pretty nice.

It has to be a first line gun, fixed mags would not be a first choice for your main SHTF weapon.

Roger that Tony..Fixed mag is not my first choice for how I'd stay running my setup for when the SHTF. I wasn't sure if are we talking something that could be reconfigured for such a scenario or a move to a more friendly home state.... or something that will stay as is even when the zombies turn the corner?

The only true first line rifle with accuracy and still legal in NY is the M1 Garand.
Otherwise, the Saiga, ARES SCR, sanitized M1A, and various foreign items like the Ljungman, or costly Gew 43.

We had a NY legal Springfield M1A come through the shop.

It took a second to get used to looking at one without the flash suppressor, and I doubt it makes that same distinct ring when fired.......but it was a straight up M1A ready to go. Even had the smell of the walnut stock.

If you wanted to go "tactical" you could find an old mcmillan stock, and you can put whatever scope you want on it since still takes removable mags.

I mean SHTF who really wants to be carrying around a bunch of 7.62x51 ammo.....but I still feel the M1A is one of the best rifles out there straight from the box.

To be fair if the rifle is for SHTF, aren't laws governing firearms kind of irrelevant? I imagine a cop you find in that new world isn't going to be concerned with enforcing a law and arresting you. Therefore, build a fixed mag AR and have a separate lower already completed. Unless the SHTF scenario youre imagining isn't total law and order breakdown, but more natural disaster-y.

Your real problem is any rifle built legally will only have 10 rounds no matter what direction you go.

I don’t know if it qualifies as “tactical”, but I have wanted a Vepr Hunter 7.62 x 54R Molot for a long time. Unfortunately, only the thumbhole stock versions are generally available, and those versions are not SAFE Act compliant.
