Diamondhead VRS T-556

Looking for this free floating handguard for an ARES SCR, not sure if the 8.75" or the 10.25" yet & I've already figured out it will fit over the gas block as it comes with a low profile...
I can't seem to find anywhere beside opticsplanet that sells it, anyone else know of anywhere that stocks/sells them ?

I replaced the Magpul handguard on my ARES with the Diamondhead carbine length handguard. It's not free floating but it's definitely nicer than the Magpul that was on it.

I think I've seen them at South Shore Sportsman, Campsite and DSI.

yea.... the top rail on the ARES seems short too... i liked the angled look of the Versa & the top rail extension.

Easy swap over for the handguard?

Handguard swap took a little bit of work since the delta ring on the upper was tight, but if you have a handguard removal tool it shouldn't be a problem. I'll try to post a pic later, but like I said it's not free float and since the rail ends before the gas block on the carbine handguard, the sight radius is a little shorter with iron sights. Didn't matter to me since I put an MRO on it and the rifle is for my SO anyway. Also need to pickup a bolt catch. I don't know why they don't just make it with one.

same here with the SO, i put a Sightmark red dot & a flip to the side Sightmark 3x magnifier behind it... not sure if it's functional though... may end up ripping the 3x mag off.

From 1 to 10 how hard it would be to replace on your own ....also what's are the prices with our local stores or should I just go to camp site and let them mount it....

If you're talking about just replacing the Magpul handguard with another carbine length handguard, it's prettey easy. Just a matter of popping off the old one and putting on the new one. If you're talking about installing a longer free float handguard that covers the gas block, definitely a lot more work. You have to take off the delta ring since most of the free float handguards have their own attachment system.
