    870 dimple removal DIY

Have a pardner protector (870 clone) and bought a mag tube extension to use for competitions. don't feel like spending money on that dimple tool. been researching DIYs for it and saw that you can drill the tube, use a socket as a replacement for the dimple removal tool or just use a half round file and file it down.

I'm thinking that filing it down would be best. Thoughts?

I've never done it, but YouTube makes it look pretty simple. I would try the socket wrench method first since it doesn't require the removal of any material from the tube.

Dremel with round or cylindrical grinding stone. Rubber polishing point to remove any roughness. Drilling is your other option but you'll still need to remove any burring.

It's a thin tube. I don't like drilling or grinding holes in it. I normally push a socket in and beat the dimples with a small hammer. Keep in mind on the 870 that's plastic thing retains the barrel so if you get the extension you'll with need what Wilson combat calls a wave washer or clamp. The older guns have a detent on the front edge of the barrel lug that engages notches in the back side of the magazine cap.

thanks for the responses. i don't want to be drilling holes in my mag tube and dont have a dremel. i'll try the socket trick and if that doesn't work i'll just use the file on it. will try to get it done this week and post some pics of the work.

Be careful to not bang the tube out of round.
