"Except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall God governs in the affairs of men. I have lived, Sir, a long time..."

It is time consuming. If you are going to put your time into something join the National Guard.

There are two types of people in this world. People that think the Goverment is looking out for their best interest and people that just think !

Tax breaks? I would think you do it for the community service or you don't do it at all. If its a money issue you could make more than any tax saving using that time doing side jobs for cash.

I did it for many years (until I moved) it's a lot of effort and time. You're expected to go to weekly company practice at night, every Sunday was a 5 hour department get together for training, truck maint, etc. You also need to get your basic classes in and get you degree in firematics. Every department is different, but mine required a certain amount of points (calls, fire or ambulance) per month also.

I loved it, but it does consume a good portion of your life.

My buddy is trying to get me to join. He told me about the pension, points, property tax breaks, etc. Think I'm gonna head down tomorrow and submit my app. Worst case, I hate it and leave

If I can do it, you can do it. Sounds cliché, but they'd be lucky to have you.
